Thousands of tickets issued, several arrests on Memorial Weekend

(WTNH)– Here’s something to keep in mind as you hit the road today.

Police will be out in full force to keep you safe. They’ve had checkpoints along the roads since midnight Friday.

State police say troopers focused on drunken driving violations, aggressive drivers, distracted drivers and speeding.

Between Friday night and Sunday morning, police have issued thousands of tickets. So far, there have been 679 tickets for speeding, over 800 tickets for seat belts and more than 200 tickets other moving violations.

There has also been 17 DUI arrests.

As for car accidents, there have been 96 investigated, 13 with injuries and one fatal accident.
