NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) — A four-year-old child was grazed by a bullet and a 17-year-old shot in the arm at an apartment building on Crystal Avenue in New London Monday night. Police say they were not the targets.

“I was watching TV with my kids when I heard the noise, and when I went to the window I just saw a bunch of police outside and people screaming and running everywhere,” said Glorida Delgado, who lives nearby.

“I tried to stay away from the windows and all that,” said Milton Rivera. “After it was over, then I looked.”

Parents say they don’t feel safe letting their kids outside.

“I don’t take my kids outside,” said Delgado. “Every time, instead of playing outside here I just take them to the playground.”

Locals say it’s not the first time they’re heard gunshots, and they’re concerned about their safety.

“It could happen to my child. It could happen to me. It could happen to my husband.”

Both victims were taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay.

No arrests have been made.
