Man who received heart transplant encouraging hospital patients

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Cheshire man received a heart transplant at Hartford Hospital three years ago, now he’s visiting patients to give them words of encouragement.

Twenty-seven-year-old Colby Salerno had a heart abnormality from birth. He started a blog called “Tales from the 10th Floor” and talked about his day-to-day life in the hospital, and it caught on.

“I can just relate so well with what he’s going through,” Salerno said. “It’s so hard being locked in a hospital at the age that he is, and he has the mindset that I admire, though, to try to stay optimistic, stay positive while you’re in here, realizing that this moment is just a step to bigger things in the future.”

He still updates the blog every once in a while.
