HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– Hartford Police say they think they know who’s responsible for shooting a pastor and another man within minutes last week.
It’s news that is being received with mixed emotions by church leadership. They tell News 8 on one hand they’re happy investigators have identified who the trigger man was but they say they’re still sad over the situations that’s unfolded.
It was a double shooting that happened that day. Police tell News 8 they think 25-year-old Aaron Taylor of Windsor is responsible.
Last Sunday he shot a 54-year-old pastor, Augustus Sealy, all happening outside First Church of the Nazarene shortly before 6:30 a.m. as he put flags in the ground for Memorial Day.
And about 15 minutes later, 27-year-old Robert Jones was shot multiples times near 402 Garden Street.
Police add the shootings may be hate crimes.
News 8 reached out to officials with the church to get their reaction to this latest development and were given the following statement:
“We are healing and we are encouraged with what is going on. And we just want our pastor to get well and be back with us.”
-Rev. Elton Adams, Church Minister
Taylor is currently charged with criminal attempt to commit murder and assault in the first degree. This warrant carries a $1.2 million judge set bond.
Anyone with information about Taylor’s whereabouts or information that will help police in this investigation are asked to contact the Hartford Police Department
