Waterbury students finish final leg of marathon

WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — Two-thousand Waterbury students took to the streets Wednesday to finish the final mile of their marathon. For the past eight to ten weeks, students from all 30 Waterbury schools have been running three miles a week to get to this final mile.

A celebration complete with family, friends, and local marching bands marked the end of the marathon.

The goal is teach students the value of exercise and eating healthy.

“Kids in the run program have higher test scores, and we know it’s working in the classroom,” said Olympic medalist Rod Dixon.

This is the third year for Rod Dixon Kid’s Marathon in Waterbury.
