Man seriously injured in I-84 crash in Newtown

NEWTOWN, Conn. (WTNH)–  I-84 has reopened after an accident caused a big traffic back up there throughout the morning.

It happened on I-84 west between exits 10 and 9 in Newtown right around 3 a.m.

Police say the driver Fabricio Gomez-pelaez, of Danbury, was traveling on the highway when he lost control of his car and went up the center median. His car sustained heavy damage from crashing into several trees.

Gomez-pelaez was taken to Danbury hospital with serious injuries but is now in fair condition. Police say he was not wearing a seat belt.

It took about four hours to get the whole thing cleaned up. Traffic is moving normally out there right now.
