Concert, other events in Hartford bring thousands to Hartford

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH/AP) — A big concert and other events in Hartford Friday evening were expected to cause major traffic problems.

About 23,000 people were expected to descend on Hartford during the afternoon rush hour for an evening concert by the Dave Matthews Band at the XFinity Theater.

“There was a little bit of traffic,” said Lexae Devarsks of Wolcott.

Theater productions at the Bushnell and Hartford Stage, and an illusionist performing at Xfinity Hall were expected to bring several thousand more people into the city. For parking attendants it created a busy evening.

“We filled up (the parking lot) probably before about 5 o’clock today,” said Chris Stoneburner.

Deputy Police Chief Brian Foley said the department prepared for major congestion to begin at about 4 p.m. and asked commuters to plan accordingly. However, many Dave Matthews Band concert goers say they think traffic will be its roughest when the event concludes and all those at the venue had back into the streets.
