Connecticut averages 5th highest car repair costs

(WTNH) — A recent analysis by CarMD says Connecticut has some of the highest car repair costs in the nation. The average price in the state to fix a problem when the check engine light comes on is $436 dollars, including parts and labor, making the fifth-highest average in the country.

Washington D.C. was the most expensive, with an average cost of $467 dollars, followed by Delaware, New Jersey, and California.

“If your car is under warranty, you want to take it to the dealership, but if your car is a little bit older and you have a trusted mechanic, go to the mechanic, get an estimate, but also go to other mechanics and get an estimate,” said Howard Schwartz of the Connecticut Better Business Bureau. “You might find there is some room to negotiate.”

The BB also says getting regular check-ups for your car can keep costs down in the long run.
