GRISWOLD, Conn. (WTNH) — Connecticut State Police are investigating a “death note” that came to light regarding Griswold Middle School on Monday.

Officials at Griswold Middle School say they know who the list came from and alerted parents. The Superintendent of Griswold Public Schools sent a message home on Tuesday about it. Superintendent Paul K. Smith wrote:

Monday morning, the Griswold Middle School administration became aware of a list of individuals compiled by a 7th grade student in a “Death Note” booklet. As a result, the State Police began an investigation into the matter and the student in question is being disciplined in a matter consistent with Board policy and the outcome of the Police investigation.

While the school and the State Police are treating this situation in the most serious of manners, it does not mean that it is unsafe for us to conduct regular school business and end-of-year events at Griswold Middle School.”

“It is concerning that a young child wrote a letter like that,” said parent Crystal Littlefield.

That young child will not be in school for the rest of the year, but parents are still disturbed.

“It is pretty frightening. You never know what goes on in a kid’s mind, at that point,” said parent Tom Buris. “When people hear something like that they wonder why or maybe something is going on at home.”

No one was hurt. The last day of school for Griswold Middle School is Friday.
