WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The family of an autistic West Hartford middle school student is suing the town, alleging the boy was the target of bullying that escalated in sexual assaults.
The lawsuit filed Monday accuses officials at King Philip Middle School of failing to prevent the attacks by a known bully.
West Hartford Corporation Counsel Joseph A. O’Brien says the district will vigorously defend the lawsuit.
The suit says the school knew of the sexual nature of the bullying, but left the bully unsupervised in a locker room with his victim in November 2013, where the 13-year-old was sodomized.
The district also faces a lawsuit filed in June 2014, which alleges the staff at Sedgwick Middle School failed to protect a student who was bullied and sexually assaulted by classmates in April 2013.
