2nd annual New Haven Caribbean Heritage Festival

WTNH — Ryan and Teresa sit down to talk with Lexis Ariel Walters and Karaine Smith-Holness about the month of June, which is National Caribbean American Heritage Month, and the upcoming 2nd annual New Haven Caribbean Heritage Festival. The Festival will take place on Sunday, June 28th at DeGale Field a.k.a. Goffe Street Park, New Haven, CT from 2pm -6pm. Karaine discusses the events, food, and fun that will be taking place at the Festival along with the Caribbean Culture we should be aware of during the month of June. Lexis is a local young female designer of Caribbean heritage and she showcases a few pieces of her work on the show that will also be included in the mini-fashion show during the festival. She shows us 3 of her bridal dresses and 2 of her more casual Caribbean outfits she created.

Caribbean Nationals has been a part of the rich culture of New Haven since the 1920’s or longer. In 2014 under the Distinguished Patronage of Hon. Mayor Toni N. Harp and the City of New Haven we were invited to showcase our rich cultures at City Hall. We had approximately 200 people sharing, learning, reminiscing, tasting and just overall having a “gran ole time” We hope to do the same again this year and year after year.
