Closer To Free Ride – Bank of America is Gearing Up!

(WTNH) – The Closer To Free Ride will be on September 12 this year and it’s bigger than ever. Susan Cruz will represent Bank of America, the Closer to Free Ride’s Presenting Sponsor for the 2nd year in a row. This year, Susan will be riding for everyone who has been touched by this disease and a family friend and married mother of three who lost her struggle at a very early age. Bank of America has organized a team again. Last year, they had 67 Participants (Riders and Volunteers) who raised a grand total of $26,509.

News8’s own Ryan Kristafer and Noelle Gardner will be racing this in the 5th annual Closer To Free Ride Bike race. The fundraiser benefits the Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Center.

The money raised goes to novel drug therapy, and a new type of treatment – cell therapy.  The cell therapy is relatively rare. There are very few cancer centers that have it. However, it is being built at Smilow Cancer Center.

The goal this year is between 1.5 – 2 million dollars. The money raised will benefit research in all types of cancers.
