NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTNH) — One man is in the hospital and another is behind bars after a shooting in New Britain early Saturday morning.

Police say 21-year-old Antonio “Ace” Elliot shot a man in the back after a disturbance near the intersection of North and Oak around 2:50 a.m. The victim, whose identity has not been released, was taken to an area hospital with injuries that authorities say aren’t life-threatening.

According to officials, Elliot and a loaded gun were found in an apartment at 205 North Street around 6 a.m. He was arrested on two warrants at that time.

Later Saturday afternoon, the Richard Street man was charged in the shooting. He’s charged with first-degree assault, criminal possession of a firearm, and unlawful discharge of a firearm. His bond was set at $450,000 and he’s scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on Monday.

Authorities say the shooting doesn’t appear to be a random incident, and initial indications are that there was a fight between two groups known to each other.
