Free fishing day helping bait and tackle businesses

BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — One popular Father’s Day activity is fishing. The state of Connecticut is helping to sweeten the deal by making this year’s Father’s Day a free fishing license day. Businesses in the area say they’re already feeling the impact.

“I think the incentive definitely helped, without a doubt,” said Paul Parzych, owner of Branford Bait and Tackle.

At fishing supply stores, like Branford Bait & Tackle, they report business is up. The owner thinks there is a correlation with their sales and the DEEP program. A steady stream of customers filed in throughout the day Saturday, but the day could’ve been better if the weather was better too.

“The rain kind of puts a damper on it, especially with the smaller kids. Mom doesn’t want them to get wet,” said Paul Parzych of Branford Bait and Tackle. “We’ll see, it’s not supposed to rain all day.”

The rain put a bit of a damper on things Saturday, with not many people fishing on the shoreline, however, News 8 was able to find a couple people that were out and they say even if it rains Sunday they still plan on going fishing again.
