NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Dozens gathered at a local New Haven church on Saturday for the families of the South Carolina church victims.
The pastor of the Bethel American Methodist Episcopal Church hosted the morning vigil to send prayers, thoughts, and concerns to the families impacted. Churchgoers look to faith and love to help heal.
“We have members who knew the victims personally, whether through friends or family of the victims, so my church is really in shock,” said Pastor Stephen Cousins.
“It hurts me personally to know that this has happened to those that I am familiar with and know of their families; it hurts deeply,” said Annie Matthews Haines of Hollywood, S.C.
Pastor Cousin says they will demonstrate love instead of the hate that was carried out that day. The plan is to host more vigils in the days to come.
