Bristol Senior dies in car crash

BRISTOL, Conn (WTNH) – An 87-year-old Bristol man has died after a crash on Farmington Avenue last Friday.

Just after 11:00 a.m., police say 87 year-old Erich Woike of Bristol was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Farmington Avenue and Collier Avenue. Officers said Woike’s 2003 Cadillac Deville was hit by a 2016 Ford F350 pickup truck being driven by 22-year-old John Chiaradio, of Bristol.

Following the collision, Woike was trapped in his car and was rescued by Bristol firefighters. Both Woike and Chiaradio were transported to a Hartford area hospital for treatment.

Officers said Woike was seriously injured in the crash. He later died from his injuries around 10:00 p.m.

Police tell News 8 that Chiaradio was reported to be in good condition with an arm injury.

START (Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team) officers are continuing their investigation. At this time, no arrests have been made.
