Governor Dannel Malloy signs casino bill into law

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Governor Dannel Malloy has signed the casino bill into law. The law creates a multi-step procedure to open a new tribal casino in Connecticut.

But the casino still has a few hurdles to jump through before it’s actually built. First, the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Tribes need to figure out where to build. That involves a proposal process. Communities interested in having a casino need to submit a proposal to the tribes.

The idea is to build the casino somewhere along the Connecticut border, with the goal of preventing the state from losing gambling business to Massachusetts once the planned MGM Resorts Casino opens in Springfield.
