STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) — Two Stamford High School administrators are being reinstated after they were disciplined over accusations that officials failed to report suspicions that a teacher had sex with one of her students.

The Stamford Advocate reports that Superintendent Winifred Hamilton said Monday that Assistant Superintendent Michael Fernandes and Assistant Principal Angela Thomas-Graves will remain employed. Fernandes was asked to rescind his offer of resignation.

It’s not known if Thomas-Graves will be reinstated as assistant principal.

Hamilton said it would be a “major loss” if the two officials left. School Board Vice President Lorraine Olson criticized Hamilton’s decision, saying the board should have been consulted.

In all, five administrators were disciplined and the teacher, Danielle Watkins, accepted a plea agreement on charges of sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.
