All State Beaches Open for Weekend

(WTNH / Noelle Gardner)

Conn. (WTNH) – The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says all state beaches will be open this weekend.  Initially several beaches were closed because of high levels of bacteria detected in the water.  Bacteria levels tend to fluctuate with heavy rains and it is common for ponds, lakes, and other swimming areas to be closed for that reason.

Samples are collected by DEEP staff and are analyzed at the Department of Public Health Lab. Local health departments are responsible for sampling municipal swimming areas.
