4 people shot at Hartford basketball tournament, 1 critical

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Hundreds of people were gathered for a basketball tournament in Hartford when gunfire erupted Saturday afternoon and four people were shot, officials say.

Hartford Deputy Police Chief Brian Foley says the tournament was taking place near Sarah J. Rawson Elementary School on Holcomb Street when one victim was shot in the head, one in the ankle, another in the groin, and the fourth in the wrist. He says the victim shot in the head is in critical condition. All four victims are males, according to authorities. None of their identities have been released.

Police say they were not aware that this tournament was being held and they don’t know who organized it. No arrests have been made.

According to officials, there were many witnesses in the area, and basketball tournaments are often videotaped. Anyone who witnessed the shooting, has information about it, or may have video of it is asked to call Hartford police at (860) 757-4000.
