Willimantic Police Department (WTNH)

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (WTNH) – A pedestrian was hit by a pickup in Willimantic at around 8 o’clock Saturday night.

The truck lost control and veered off the road onto the pedestrian only walkway. The pickup ran into several people, including a small child.

Fortunately, the small child and most of the surrounding pedestrians were able to jump out of the way before the car made full contact. However, one of the pedestrians was transported to Windham Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The truck, described as a 1990-2000 white Ford pickup, continued past the pedestrians and ran into a fence holding up an electrical box. Following that, the truck clipped a pole and then headed southbound on Route 32.

The truck nor the driver have been identified.

The Willimantic Police Department is asking anyone who has any information pertaining to this vehicle or this incident to come forth to assist in the investigation.
