NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Twice in two days a group of armed robbers has targeted a store on Ferry Street in New Haven, store employees say. The first incident was Sunday night.

“I need a favor. I got a gun on me. I need $10 for gas,” said Salina Nunez, explaining what one of the four suspects told her father, the owner of Jay Nez Groceries.

He threw them $10 and they left, but three of the suspects came back Monday night. Surveillance video shows two suspects trying to kick in a door to get behind the counter while one pulls a weapon and demands cash, but the owner fights back with a large knife, swiping at the would-be robbers. Nunez says that action likely saved her father’s life.

“He had no other choice, it was his life,” she said. “If you jump over the counter and try to get me, I’m going to make sure you leave out of here wounded.”

Anyone who recognizes the suspects is asked to call the New Haven Police Department at (203) 946-6316.
