HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A former Department of Mental Heath and Addiction Services employee has paid a fine for using state resources for her own financial gain.

Amisha Desai, of Newington, paid $3,000 for abusing her access to state resources to help run her private businesses: two restaurants, one liquor store and one hotel.

In order to help conduct her private business, Desai utilized her state-issued computer, state-provided e-mail account, and state phone. Furthermore, she was compensated for time spent managing these businesses by the state.

Desai has lost her position at the Department for a separate but related issue and no longer works as a state employee.
