Stamford man accused of stealing thousands in unemployment benefits

STAMFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Stamford man is facing larceny and unemployment fraud charges after he allegedly collected more than $16,000 dollars in benefits while working.

According to the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice, Terrell L. Lewis, 39, of Stamford, was arrested and charged Tuesday with collecting $16,342 in unemployment benefits from April 2010 to March 2012, when in fact he was employed. The Unemployment Compensation Fraud Unit started the investigation following a complaint received by the Connecticut Department of Labor.

Lewis was released on a $10,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on July 7th, 2015.
