Rep. DeLauro calling for nationwide ban on tanning beds for teens

(WTNH)–Tanning beds are a hot topic when it comes to health news, and many doctors have warned that the UV radiation from beds can cause skin cancer.

Here in Connecticut, it is illegal for tanning salons to allow anyone under the age of 17 to use a tanning bed.

Now, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro wants the rest of the nation to follow in our state’s footsteps. She’s calling on a nationwide ban on tanning beds for minors.

The American Academy of Dermatology says those using tanning beds have a 75-percent higher risk of developing melanoma.
