STONINGTON, Conn. (AP/WTNH) — A man and a seven-year-old boy were killed in a fiery tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 95 in Stonington Monday night.
Department of Transportation officials say the wreck happened at 8:41 p.m. when a tractor-trailer crashed into the flex beam guide rail on the right shoulder, just before exit 91. Police say 31-year-old Sergio Castellon, and his 7-year-old passenger, also named Sergio Castellon, both of Iowa, were killed.
Witnesses say they saw smoke and heard explosions. Debris scattered across the highway.
The northbound side of the highway was closed between exits 90 and 91 from 11:30 p.m. Monday until early Tuesday morning, when one lane opened.
