Attempted carjacking in New Haven leads to assault

NEW HAVEN, Conn (WTNH) — A New Haven man was pistol-whipped during an attempted carjacking at Grand Avenue and Poplar Street, police say.

The 23-year-old victim told officials he had been approached by two men in their 40’s while he was stopped at the intersection. He said one held black- or silver-colored handgun, and that they tried taking his Volkswagen Jetta, but he refused to give it to them. That’s when, he says, he was hit in the head with the gun and the men took off running.

Lopez’s wound required on scene EMT treatment. New Haven pfficers took the victim’s car for forensic processing.
