Drivers rewarded for yielding in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Today police officers in New Haven will be on patrol, handing out gift certificates to drivers who obey the rules of the road.

The goal is to reward drivers who properly yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, so officers will be handing out gift cards to Tikkaway Grill. If someone is caught not obeying the rules of the road, they’ll get information about New Haven’s Streets Smarts campaign and a written warning instead.

The event is hosted by goNewHavengo and Street Smarts. It starts at noon at the intersection of Orange and Court Streets.
