VERNON, Conn. (WTNH)– A Connecticut man was arrested for having drugs on him after he was pulled over by state police Saturday evening.
According to police, troopers from Troop C responded to a call for an erratic driver smoking what appeared to be a rolled-up cigarette driving on I-84 in Vernon in the eastbound direction.
The car then struck a metal beam guiderail on the left shoulder of the highway shortly after troopers spotted him.
The driver, 41 year old Shawn Harris, was transported to Rockville Hospital in Vernon for treatment of his injuries. While investigating, police determined that Harris had illegal narcotics in his vehicle.
A state police narcotics K-9 from Troop H responded to the scene. Police say a search of Harris’ bag found $9,000 in cash and found a rolled “joint” which tested positive for PCP.
Harris was arrested after being released from the hospital. He was charged with DUI and failure to remain in established lane. He is due in court August 17.
