NEW HAVEN, Conn (WTNH) — Due to this week’s excessive heat, the city of New Haven will be keeping their beaches and city pools open longer.

New Haven’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Trees announce that they are extending the hours of Lighthouse Point Park Beach and city pools located in Career, Hillhouse, Martinez and Wilbur Cross schools.

Life Guards will now be present at the beach until 7:00 PM, while the pools will be open until 8:00 PM.

New Haven’s splash-pads will also close at sundown, with the exception of the Lighthouse Point Park slash-pad which will close at 7:00 PM.

Officials will re-evaluate pool and beach conditions each day. However the city plans to keep these extended hours until the 90 degree weather breaks.
