DMV inspector escapes car before I-91 crash

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A DMV truck inspector avoided injury when an out of control car crashed into his cruiser, which was parked on the side of I-91 North in New Haven Thursday afternoon.

According to the Department of Motor Vehicles, Sgt. Robert Tyson was sitting in his cruiser near exit 5, doing paperwork after a traffic stop, when he heard a screeching sound coming from another car. He said when he looked into his rear-view mirror, he saw a car driving across each lane headed for him and his parked car.

Tyson said he then jumped out of the car and ran as far as he could in front of the car. Because of that, he was not in the car nor injured when the other car struck his vehicle.

There is no word on the condition of the other driver or what caused the car crash.

The accident has been cleared and remains under investigation.
