WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Hartford man was thrown from his car when it rolled after hitting a tractor trailer, closing I-91 South in Wethersfield around 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

State police say 39-year-old Kevin Russell drifted from his lane near exit 26 and hit the left rear tires of the truck, then his car went airborne and hit the cab. They say the Nissan Maxima then rolled several times, and Russell was ejected. The Hebron Street man was taken to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries. An accident report says it’s unknown if he was wearing a seat belt.

According to authorities, the truck driver, 44-year-old Daniel Mulrine, of Hillsborough, N.J., was not injured.

The southbound lanes of Interstate 91 were closed between exits 26 and 25S for about four hours, but have reopened.
