Brush Fire Breaks Out On Popular Hiking Trail

HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) – Hamden firefighters responded to West Rock Ridge Park on Friday morning.  There had been several 911 calls about heavy smoke in the area West of Hill St. and North of Dunbar Hill Rd.  When crews were able to gin access to the area, they found an approximately five to seven acre area burning.  They were able to get the flames under control in about an hour.  The area is frequented by day hikers, some of whom stopped to watch the crews.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
