CT gas prices drop for the 10th straight week

HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — The average gasoline prices in Connecticut have dropped for the 10th straight week, moving the state down seven places on the national list of states with the highest gas prices.

According to AAA Northeast, today’s state average is $2.73, which is down five cents from last week.

AAA’s August 17th survey of prices in Connecticut also found that today’s average price per gallon of regular, self-serve is 19 cents cheaper than this time last month, and $1.06 cheaper than this time last year.

AAA’s weekly survey of gas prices in Connecticut’s four regional areas found:

  • Greater Bridgeport/Stamford   $2.81
  • New Haven/Meriden               $2.73
  • New London/Norwich              $2.70
  • Greater Hartford                     $2.70

Connecticut has moved from 13th to 20th place on the national chart in terms of high gas prices.

Today’s national price is averaging $2.67, eight cents lower than last week, nine cents lower than last month, and 79 cents lower than last year.

The week’s rundown of states with gas prices higher than Connecticut, according to AAA:

  • California    $3.58
  • Alaska    $3.47
  • Hawaii    $3.20
  • Nevada    $3.22
  • Illinois    $3.16
  • Washington    $3.08
  • Michigan    $2.999
  • Oregon    $2.996
  • Indiana & Wisconsin   $2.96
  • Idaho    $2.94
  • Colorado    $2.86
  • Ohio    $2.85
  • Wyoming    $2.82
  • Utah    $2.80
  • Montana    $2.79
  • D.C.    $2.77
  • New York    $2.76
  • South Dakota    $2.74
  • Nebraska    $2.73

South Carolina and Alabama, both at $2.18 and $2.22, respectively are the lowest states in the nation.
