Everyday MVP Shannon Kiniry raises money for ALS

(WTNH) – Every week News8 and Frontier Communications highlight a special kid in the CT community who shows great Minds, Values, and Promise. 13 year old Shannon Kiniry, of Glastonbury, knows how important it is to help others she’s been doing it for half of her life.

Her father was diagnosed with ALS,a neuro-degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Shannon was inspired to do something and was just a little girl when she started putting on an annual summer-time carnival at her family’s Glastonbury home.

All of the neighborhood kids would “pay to play” and the money would then be donated to the ALS Foundation.

Shannon has raised more than $10,000, with more money expected to be raised during next week’s backyard carnival. Shannon was even named the “Youth volunteer of the year 2014” by the ALS Foundation because of all of the hard work she has put into the organization.

If you know an Everyday MVP kid like Shannon, nominate them today!
