Pedestrian struck in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A woman was hit by a truck outside the Dunkin’ Donuts at State and Humphrey Streets in New Haven on Thursday.

Witnesses say a man driving a Nissan truck was playing with his phone and looking down when the woman tried to cross the street. He slammed into her and she went flying into the middle of the road. People who rushed to help the woman say she was conscious and talking after the accident.

“She said that he wasn’t paying attention and she was crossing at the crosswalk and he should have been looking, that’s what she was saying,” Michael McDuffie-Gilmore said. “He wasn’t looking, he was looking down at his phone and he was more like in shock.”

The woman was taken to the hospital.

The driver who hit her stuck around and waited for police. There’s no word yet on whether he’ll be charged.
