Live-saving kidney transplant patients doing well

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A Milford firefighter and a Hamden man are doing well after the firefighter donated his kidney to a man he barely knew.

Yale-New Haven Hospital officials say that both Fire Batallion Chief Ron Wetmore and George Jerolman are listed in good condition after Tuesday transplant.

Wetmore said that he saw on his Facebook news-feed that Jerolman, someone he met at the Hamden youth hockey league, needed a kidney.

“I found out he wasn’t going to make Christmas. His doctors told him he wasn’t going to make Christmas if he doesn’t get a donation. I’m a perfect match. Why not me,” Wetmore said.
