Marble falls from New Haven building

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A section of Orange and Chapel Streets was shut down in New Haven Friday night after a firefighter noticed a chunk of marble had fallen from a first-floor window of a building. Firefighters also found another piece of marble that fell off another window.

The scene has been cleared and city leaders say there is no danger to public.

“Obviously a piece of marble, if it were to fall, would be very dangerous, so they checked out every window and really made sure there was nothing else loose,” said New Haven economic development administrator Matthew Nemerson.

City officials say there are plans to redevelop the building.
