VERNON, Conn. (WTNH) — A Vernon neighborhood was evacuated briefly Tuesday after construction workers digging on a construction site unearthed a possible blasting cap that was buried underground.
The object was found on South Street near Knollwood Drive just before 11:30 a.m. Officers closed the road and evacuated some residences as a precaution.
Vernon police tell News 8 the Hartford Bomb Squad was called in to assist and evaluate the item. By 12:30 p.m., the area was deemed safe, and residents were allowed to return to their homes. No explosive devices were found.
