EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)  –  East Haven’s Police Department has promoted three officers to detective.   Among them are the town’s first two black detectives.

Officers Monique Colbert, Shirley Conyers and Jeffrey Vailette will become detectives on September 7th.  East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr. says the promotions of Officers Colbert and Conyers gives the department their first black detectives in history.  He says “The department, which as had well over 50% turnover since the town entered an agreement with the Department of Justice, continues to recruit and promote the best people possible for our community.  We also continue our trend of diversification.”

Officer Colbert transferred to East Haven from the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services in 2001 and Officers Conyers and Vailette began their careers with the department in 2007.
