Local veterans get new suit and smile

BETHEL, Conn. (WTNH) — Save a Suit is pairing up with Aspen Dental to help local unemployed veterans build confidence so they can get back into the work force.

“When you walk into a room you have 30 seconds to make a really good first impression so we don’t want our veterans going in with a disadvantage we really want them going into the interview looking confident and the part,” Jessica Ewud with Save a Suit said.

Each veteran will get a suit, shirt and a tie so they look great for job interviews plus much needed dental work.

“Obviously there is a wide range of veterans. Some of them are younger, others are much older and as you get older things get porous and a slot of medication that they are taking has a lot of side effects can effect the teeth,” said Dr. Patrick Dermesropian with Aspen Dental.

Aspen Dental doctors are treated over two dozen patients Wednesday for cleanings, fillings and root canals.

“That’s one thing that’s not provided by the VA, is they don’t provide dental care unless you are disabled for lifetime and I served in the naval submarine service in Connecticut and this is really something that is necessary and I’m glad they are doing it today for us.” said Webster Holland.

Doctors say they enjoy making a difference. “We usually come out to places like this where not a a lot of care is provided and we try to make ourselves available for them,” said Dermesropian.

“To have my smile back again. To be able to smile without people looking at my teeth and have a good suit to wear for a job interview absolutely it’s a plus,” Holland added.
