230-year-old church sold in New London


NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) — The Whaling City has been home to one of America’s oldest churches for over 200 years, and now, that property has been sold.

The First Congregational Church will now belong to the Engaging Heaven Church. The two congregations have worshiped together at the church and will continue to do so in the future.

The agreement to change hands in management was agreed to in a written agreement signed on October 10, 1785, according to church pastor James Levesque.

The building sold for $250,000 and is expected to make a number of upgrades.
