New app available to help kids lose weight

(WTNH)– The push is on to get children a little more involved in what they’re eating. Now there’s an app available to help children who are trying to stay fit.

It’s called “KURBO” and it groups foods as either red, yellow or green. Kids are taught to cut down on those unhealthy ‘red’ foods over time.

“Weight loss apps are like a modern day food journal. You can take them with you everywhere you go so they’re really convenient. Research has shown that by keeping track of your food and what you eat and drink makes you more mindful of it and therefore you’re more able to lose weight,” said Ann Dunaway Teh, Registered Dietitian.

And if a child or family needs additional help, some apps offer coaching, usually at a fee.
