State police step up enforcement


New Haven, Conn. (WTNH) – Ahead of the heavy travel during the Labor Day Weekend, state troopers have increased patrols. In the past week, the stepped up enforcement has led to more than 56-hundred moving violations, that include violations involving cell phone usage, texting and following too closely.

The tactics used to spot violators included sobriety checkpoints and targeted DUI patrols, as troopers focused on drunken driving violations, aggressive driving, distracted driving and speeding. There were 83 accidents report from August 27th through September 2nd.

One of them, on Route 9 in Haddam, was deadly.
