WASHINGTON D.C. (WTNH)– A woman was charged with attempted abduction after she tried to snatch a toddler from a stroller on a Washington D.C. Metro train, but was tackled by passengers.
According to Washington D.C. transit officials, on Tuesday around 9:20 a.m., the woman tried to pull a 2-year-old girl out of her stroller but could not do so because she was strapped in.
A witness told the Washington Post that the mother and daughter then both started screaming. The witness says that the mother began to yell “Don’t touch my daughter. Let go of my daughter.”
The woman was then tackled and held down by other passengers until the police arrived.
Train passengers told the Washington Post that the woman was acting strange and muttering to herself. Others said that the intercom on the train did not seem to be working when they tried to call for help.
The woman is in police custody but refuses to cooperate and police have not been able to identify her.
