3 men rescued after boat capsizes in Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. (WTNH) — Three men were rescued after their boat capsized near Cockenoe Island in Westport on Saturday.

Police say they received a distress call at 11:20 Saturday morning regarding a capsized vessel with three people in the water.

The men were fishing when their 18′ canoe capsized due to choppy waters. The men said they were in the water for 15 minutes before a passing sailboat spotted them and radioed the distress call.

Responders located the men and pulled them from the water. All three were wearing life jackets when the boat tipped over. None of them were injured.

The canoe was recovered and towed to Compo Marina.
