HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH)– The sidewalk outside the Pinerock apartment complex is a path that leads students to a Southern Connecticut State University education but Friday night it was also where a violent crime was committed, sending out Hamden police officers out in force.
“I saw nine or ten cop cars and we were wondering what was going on,” said Michael Demeis who lives in the complex.
A student was walking there just before midnight when two men armed with hand guns approached him and took what what school officials are calling his “personal items” and then ran off.
Michael Demeis says that while the crooks may have gotten away, what remains for many who live here is a feeling of uncertainty as they wonder what if they had been the victim.
Demeis isn’t the only one concerned, other students we met who call the complex home say they plan moving forward to take precautions when walking around the buidlings at night.
“If your going to come out, come with a group that has your back,” said Brendan Gil, a resident of the complex. “Never come alone really and don’t start to much, be to yourself and keep to yourself.”
The student who was robbed left the scene unscathed.
