Plane runs off runway at Sikorsky Airport

STRATFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Sikorsky Airport is shut down after a plane ran off the runway Monday afternoon.

Just before 1:30 p.m., firefighters responded to the airport on reports of a plane off runway 29. Officials tell News 8 that the pilot was attempting to land at the airport, and wound up spinning the plane around onto a grassy area.

Police confirm that the one person on board was not hurt in incident. The plane had roughly 30 gallons of fuel on board, and there are no signs of a fuel leak or mechanical issue. Airport officials said their preliminary investigation is already underway.

The airport is temporarily closed while the plane is removed from the area.
