State Police release preliminary Labor Day statistics


MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) – Connecticut State Police are out with a preliminary list of incidents on state highways over the Labor Day weekend.  State Police officials say the focus this weekend has been on drunken driving, aggressive drivers, distracted drivers and speeding.  Troopers have been out this weekend in traditional cruisers, and unmarked vehicles.  A number of sobriety checkpoints have been operating over the weekend.

The statistics below are for between Friday, September 4th through 4 p.m. Monday, September 7th.  Final numbers will be released by the state Tuesday morning.

Accidents: 273

Accidents with injuries: 52

Fatal Accidents: 2

DUI arrests: 36

Speeding tickets: 1,464

Seatbelt violations: 77

Total other moving violations: 3,192

In 2014 there was one fatal accident on Labor Day weekend, 33 injury accidents, and 35 DUI arrests.
