AUSTRALIA (WTNH)– An amazing photo of a seal getting a ride on the back of a whale is trending worldwide.
Earlier this week when a pod of humpback whales decided it was time eat on the NSW south coast of Australia, a fur seal decided to join in on the feeding frenzy. The seal even found a good spot to catch some of the fish.
The photographer, Robyn Malcom, told the Sydney Morning Herald, “we’d seen some amazing whales coming out of the water, everything was happening so quickly. And it was when I went back through the photos that I realized I had actually captured the seal on top of the whale.”
A NSW National Parks and Wildlife whale expert told the newspaper that while this teamwork is very uncommon, he’s heard of it happening before.
This time of year is prime whale-watching season for that part of Australia, where there is an increase of humpbacks whales feeding and resting, before heading to Antarctica.
And for those who think the seal riding the whale is a fake photo, Malcom told the Sydney Morning Herald, “I don’t know how to use PhotoShop. And I do still have it on the camera so I can prove it.”
